| Dr. Elliott Haimoff is a world-renowned tropical biologist and animal behaviorist, who pioneered the use of field videotaping and video production in the analysis of animal and human behavior back in 1976. Dr. Haimoff received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in the field of biology, and went on to become a research professor in biology at U.C.L.A., where he conducted pioneering field research in mainland China in the mid- 1980s to help the Chinese government in their conservation efforts to save their remaining tropical rain forests and animals. In addition, Dr. Haimoff also continued his ground-breaking research in both video production and developing computer programs for biological analyses. Dr. Haimoff has published over 40 articles in refereed scientific journals, and his work on animal behavior even became the subject of a P.B.S. science television program in 1988. Dr. Haimoff's professional TV production work began in 1988, when he joined the science unit of the Los Angeles P.B.S. station, KCET, where he and his colleagues produced literally dozens of science programs examining everything from why cats purr to the science of sports medicine; from the last picture show of the Voyager space craft, to the science of art; from ancient Chinese astronomy to the latest in laser surgery; from the conservation of animals in the remotest parts of the world to conservation and being more eco-aware here in the U.S.; and from the physiology of obesity, exercise, metabolism and weight loss, to future colonization on Mars. This TV series won a Los Angeles-area Emmy in 1990. After forming GLOBAL SCIENCE PRODUCTIONS in 1990, Dr. Haimoff and his staff have produced over 200 documentaries and news documentary segments for TV broadcast that spanned the spectrum of science, from the beginnings of the universe at the Big Bang, to profiles of the U.S. and Russian space programs in the old halcyon days of the space race to the moon, and even to what humankind might look like in the next million years. These documentaries have been broadcast in over 30 countries worldwide. Some of the most recent documentary programs produced by Dr. Haimoff and Global Science Productions have examined the most highly controversial current issues facing humanity today such as the moral, ethical, scientific, and religious implications related to human cloning, genetic modification of food, and animal transgenics. These issues are still being as hotly debated as they were when these programs were first produced. It is the goal of Dr. Haimoff and his production company to design programs that relieve ‘science anxiety’; educate as they entertain; and stimulate rather than intimidate. Each program offers food for thought; measures the pulse of progress; and reveals the human side of science. |
